MLB All Star Game History
In 2007 the American League defeated the American League 5-4 at AT&T Park, the home of the NL's San Francisco Giants. MVP Ichiro Suzuki hit two-run homer in the fifth inning put the AL ahead and then Carl Crawford and Victor Martinez added conventional shots as the Americans held on for a 5-4 victory over the Nationals.
The victory was the tenth consecutive one (excluding the 2002 tie) for the AL, and their eleven-game unbeaten streak matches only the NL's streak from 1972 to 1982 in All-Star history.
The game was the fifth straight All-Star Game to decide home-field advantage in the World Series. The AL entered the game on a ten-game unbeaten streak (nine wins, with one tie in 2002) as The NL was looking for their first win since the 1996 game in Philadelphia. In spite of the slump, the National League leads the all-time record with 41 wins to the American League's 36 and 2 ties. The inaugural MLB All Star Game was played in 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago where the American League won 4-2.
The National League has the longest winning streak of 11 games from 1972-1982. The American League currently has a league-best 11-game unbeaten streak (including the tie in 2002), and has dominated the game since 1988 (losing only 3 times and tying 1). They previously dominated from 1933-1949, winning 12 of the first 16. The National League dominated from 1950-1987, winning 33 of 42 with 1 tie. This included a stretch from 1963-1982 when they won 19 of 20.
The game marked the first time since 1953 that one league hosted consecutive All-Star Games, after Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, hosted the game in 2006.
