NBA Finals History

In 1947, the Philadelphia Warriors defeated the Chicago Stags 4-1 in the first NBA Finals. Since then a few “dynasties” have ruled the league. The Boston Celtics won the title 11 times, including eight consecutive, from 1957 – 1969 in all but two years.  The Celtic Dynasty was headed by Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Bill Sharman and coach Red Auerbach. During the 80s, the Los Angeles Lakers won five championships in eight appearances. LA was led by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.  The team of the 90s was the Chicago Bulls led by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.  The team won a total six championships and repeated a “threepeat” from 1991-1993 and 1996-1998. Chicago was six for six. From 1999 to 2001, the Los Angeles Lakers led by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal also won three straight nba championships.  Last season, the Miami Heat led by Dwayne Wayde and Shaquille O'Neal defeated the Mavericks in six games to win the franchise's first title. It was the first Finals appearance for both teams. The NBA Finals is a best of seven series held annually in June between the champion of the Eastern Conference and that of the Western Conference. The first team to win four games earns the Larry O'Brien Championship trophy and keeps it permanently.
