The Astros, established in 1962 as the Houston Colt .45s, began play on April 10 1962 defeating the Chicago Cubs 11-2. In 1965, the Houston Colt .45s became the Houston Astros, to show support for the space program based in Houston, and inaugurated the Astrodome with a 2-1 exhibition win over the New York Yankees on April 9.

Throughout their history the Astros have won no World Series titles, one National League pennant, six division titles and two wild card berths. In 2005 the Astros , led by Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio and Lance Berkman; played the Chicago White Sox in the World Series.

While the Astros were making their first Series appearance in 44 years of play, the White Sox waited exactly twice as long for a title, having last won the Series in 1917, and had not been in the Series since 1959. In the end the White Sox swept the Astros and sent them home empty handed.

Minute Maid Park is a ballpark in Houston, Texas, United States that opened in 2000 to house the Houston Astros. The ballpark was Houston's first retractable-roofed stadium, protecting fans and athletes from Houston's notoriously humid weather as its predecessor, the Astrodome, did, but allowing fans to also enjoy outdoor baseball; something they couldn't do in the Astrodome.
