A brand new season!
A brand new season in 2009 means new hope and dreams for all 30 MLB teams. Spring training will be the beginning to what most hope, a trip to the 2009 World Series. That long journey came through for Tampa Bay and Philadelphia in 2008. Philadelphia Phillies ended up as the World Series champion, with a great display of baseball throughout the postseason. The most consistent team won the title, very deserving of it. The Phillies' last time in the World Series was in 1993 with that heartbreaking loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. This is their second championship, the first one came in 1980.
For the Tampa Bay Rays, a young team with a promising future, 2009 will be a year to prove they are here to stay. It should not be easy, having as division rivals, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, along with the rest of the American League teams such as Los Angeles Angels, Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins. On the other side, The National League will be looking to finally win the All Star game (next year in St. Louis) for the first time in 12 years and get that very important home court advantage in the World Series. The Phillies will come back as one of the favorites, as well as, the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and the Chicago Cubs among others. It will definitely be another great season to follow.
